NEWSLETTERvol.8/2017EVOH TubesABOUT EVOHVOH (Ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer) is a flexible, clear, and glossy thermoplastic co-polymer with good flex-crack resistance. It is very high resistance to hydrocarbons, oils and organic solvents. EVOH provides very strong barrier proper-ties. It is ideally suited to pack cosmetics with cream & gel based content, food items and specific industrial chemicals which have medium to high viscosity. It is one among the most recommended barrier for plastic tubes. However, EVOH loses its gas barrier proper-ties when exposed to moisture. To optimize both cost and performance, it is frequently used in multilayer, co-extrud-ed films like HDPE, PP, and PET, which have superior moisture barrier properties, called PBL Tubes.PBL tubes or Laminated Tubes are made com-pletely of plastic with the barrier layer being made of EVOH plastic granules. PBL Tubes made of all plastic layers can be completely transparent and make the final product packed inside the tube visible to the customers. 2vol.8/2017FACTORYVIDEOThe video above shows a process of extrusion. A mixture of res-in and color concentrate is placed into an extruder hopper. The extruder is temperature controlled as the resin is fed through to ensure proper melt of the resin. The sleeve is wa-ter-cooled and ready for cutting. The sleeve is fed through a set of dies and is sliced to a given length by a rotating knife.Production process 3vol.8/2017A recent market study released by Technavio, “Global Cosmet-ic Tubes and Jars Market 2017-2021,” predicts that the global market for these components will grow at a CAGR of close to 6% during the forecast period.Tubes give brands an abundance of surface real estate to display product information and decoration for on-shelf differentiation. A large, 360-degree printable area gives ample room for brands to clearly display their logo, their product, its benefits and all of the increasing regulatory information required of a cosmetic product . Add to that custom colors, metallic effects, graduated printing, life-like flexo-printing and a multitude of header and cap options and you have one versatile, squeezable, advertising board for your products.Along with the proliferation of natural and sophisticated formula-tions comes an increasing need for packaging protection. 123GLOBAL COSMETIC TUBESAvailable in a variety of porta-ble shapes and sizes, tubes hy-gienically enable consumers to squeeze nearly 100% of the product out of the package, with easy, one-handed dispensing. With increasing demand for environment sustainabili-ty and protection, their recy-clability becomes more pop-ular for product developers. 4vol.8/2017“Application Exsample”Multi-layered laminate tubes with barrier layers provide sensitive for-mulas with much needed protec-tion, and are an ever-popular choice for brand owners. Barrier layers in a multi-layered tube structure include ones made with ethylene vinyl alco-hol (EVOH) plastic resin or aluminum.EVOH is an barrier layer, a trend toward the use of plas-tic-based laminate material.Using EVOH as a barrier as compared to aluminum in tra-ditional laminate tubes bea-cuse of the benefit to bounce back to its original shape. It is a good option for brands that don’t wish to use a carton.45 5vol.8/2017Tube Diameter.Fill CapacityLength of tube can be customerized.
